ABOUT THE GALVESTON PARK BOARD In 1963, the citizens of Galveston voted to create a specialized unit of government called the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the parks that they manage. Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business backgrounds. Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees. We are on a mission to promote and support tourism on Galveston Island in order to foster an environment that establishes a great place to live, work, and visit. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF SEASONAL GROUNDS MAINTENANCE STAFF As a groundskeeper in hospitality, you play a crucial role in maintaining the overall appearance of our park. Upon checking the buildings, grounds, and guest facilities, you perform routine maintenance which includes basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work. You pick up any loose trash around the park and deposit trash bags in the dumpsters. While performing park walkthroughs, you monitor for safety needs as well as try to resolve visitor needs as they arise. You report any issues back to the park manager as needed. In addition, you keep restrooms and common areas for guests clean. You perform routine cleaning of your workspace, tools, and equipment as well as maintain cleaning inventory and report low supplies to a manager. Working effectively with other employees, you ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner and contribute to the successful operation of the park. Staying organized and keeping the park in pristine condition make you feel good, and that is why you are a great groundskeeper! QUALIFICATIONS FOR SEASONAL GROUNDS MAINTENANCE STAFF At least 18 years of age Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification or ability to become certified (CTA training provided by the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees upon hire) Fluency in English both verbally and in writing Valid driver's license Ability to operate heavy machinery, including Surf Rake, Bobcat, and tractor Ability to operate basic power and hand tools Ability to operate a passenger vehicle and all-terrain vehicle Ability to stand and walk for 10 hours a day Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills Being bilingual is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. WORK SCHEDULE This groundskeeper position in tourism and hospitality works from March to November 2026 with shifts falling between the hours of 7 AM - 7 PM.
