LyondellBasell is the third-largest independent chemical company in the world. The Company is looking for experienced talent to work on multi-million dollar capital projects as part of the Global Projects group. This group is responsible for developing and executing major capital projects on a global basis as a shared-service organization providing project expertise to all LyondellBasell manufacturing locations and businesses.

As a member of the dynamic Global Projects (GP) HSE team, you will provide expertise and a depth of knowledge in the areas of HSES leadership, occupational and process safety, health, environmental & security in a project and construction environment, serving as an HSE Lead to Global Projects (GP) in the US. Responsibilities involve developing, implementing and managing the HSE Plan and performance for a variety of projects and relate to the assigned area(s) of responsibility. The HSE Lead will support the Project and Construction Managers to ensure overall project success in the areas of health, safety (process and occupational), environmental and security. The HSE Lead is required to organize, plan, staff, motivate, coordinate and direct the construction HSES effort, with general direction from the GP HSE Manager and other project leadership positions. The office location for this position will be based at the LYB Houston Engineering Center (HEC) and routine travel in the US is expected approximately 30% of the time.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Ensure that construction activities on projects are executed safely and meet LyondellBasell's requirements
  • Develop, finalize, implement and manage the project specific construction HSE Plan
  • Develop and monitor contractor safety performance metrics
  • Provide technical support to achieve compliance with standards, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements. Where necessary, develop and implement new and existing programs designed to promote improved HSE performance
  • Manage the collection and analysis of HSE metrics, trends and reports
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly, monthly and other project HSE reports and presentations
  • Develop material and participate in leadership discussions during safety meetings
  • Participate in and lead HSE audits, assessments, listening tours, etc., and implement corrective actions, as necessary
  • Assist with the management of project related HSE communications
  • Be visible, as a project leadership team representative, in the field
  • Participate in or take lead role in incident investigations, action plans and prevention programs in area(s) of responsibility
  • Identify need, develop, execute, coordinate and critique safety training
  • Support other functions in the work team as needed
  • Provide mentoring and occasional direction to project contract company HSE representatives as needed
  • Provide direct oversight of multiple 3rd party / seconded project HSE professionals, who are assigned to GP project sites



  • Take role of Incident Investigation Process Owner to analyze, organize & manage recordkeeping of all GP HSE-related incident investigations
  • Manage the development/approval process for GP HSE procedures, as assigned
  • Manage communication/action plans from LYB Directives, Advisories, LFE Alerts for assigned projects
  • Demonstrate a proactive and responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers and contractors
  • Have clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Have effective interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to impact and influence behaviors that reinforce and create a safer working environment
  • Have effective time management and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Collaborate with other team members for proactive advancement of GP HSE systems and processes
  • Be team oriented, flexible, able to work & meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Be able to travel to all areas in the facility, which may require climbing, ascending and descending stairs, walking, driving, stooping, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
  • Be able to wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Other responsibilities as directed by management

    Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, or HSE related discipline is required
  • Relevant field experience in industrial construction or turnaround safety is strongly preferred
  • Advanced professional certifications preferred i.e., ASP, CSP, CHST, OHST
  • Strong communication and leadership skills are required
  • Must have a minimum of 8years' safety/environmental experience in a construction industries, chemical manufacturing, O&G or refining
  • General knowledge of select agency HSE/PSM regulation (OSHA, etc.) and specific knowledge of project/construction industry safety standards
  • Ability to work independently and perform key functions in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Functions with minimal day-to-day supervision
  • Will provide Health, Safety and Environmental leadership and monitor, assess and guide the safe work of employees contracted to complete project and construction work
  • Will assist with driving necessary HSE change and GoalZERO performance
